Vietnamese PM urges prompt actions to deal with consequences of floods

Vietnamese Prime Minister on Friday urged relevant agencies to have prompt actions to deal with consequences of complicated flood situation caused by Typhoon Nida in northern Vietnam.

So far, one more person was killed by flood, increasing the number of flood victims in Vietnam to four, Vietnams state-run news agency cited Lao Cais Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control as saying.

Among the four deaths, one person was in Sa Pa town in Lao Cais province and three others were in Lao Cais Bat Xat district.

Meanwhile, seven others remain missing, including six people in Bat Xat and one person in Sa Pa.

Lao Cai authorities have been requested to deploy forces to search for the missing, arrange shelters for those whose houses were washed away by floods as well as supply necessities for local residents.

Other localities have been asked to have plans to evacuate their residents from areas with high possibilities of flash floods and landslides, according to a document by the Prime Minister.

From Tuesday to Thursday, due to impacts of Typhoon Nida, as many as 15 houses were totally collapsed while 311 others were partially damaged in Vietnams northern and central areas. Over 160 hectares of crops were damaged, according to Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on Friday.

Typhoon Nida made landfall at the Dapeng Peninsula in the city of Shenzhen, southern China's Guangdong province on Tuesday. Tornado and heavy rain triggered by Typhoon Nida killed two people in Vietnam's Lao Cai earlier on Tuesday.
