A student was killed by a lone shooter at a high school near Portland, Oregon, Tuesday morning, local police said.
The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the suspected shooter was also dead, but it was not clear how the shooter died.
The shooting took place shortly after the school day started at 8:00 a.m. local time at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, about 19 km east of Portland. About an hour after the shooting, police said the situation was contained at the school.
The school remained in a police lockdown as students were shown on live video feed evacuated from campus buildings, hands on their heads.
Reports reaching here from the U.S. Pacific Northwest state said the shooter used a semi-automatic weapon and inflicted multiple injuries at the school.
Doug Daoust, mayor of Troutdale, told CNN over the phone that 10 to 12 cities near Troutdale responded to the incident.
