Yangon dwellers prepare for water festival celebration

Yangon dwellers, especially young ones, are making preparations to celebrate country's upcoming Thingyan, a four-day water festival due to fall on Sunday.

Water throwing pavilions are being erected with different decorations along the roadside of the famous places in the city, with many famous musical acts set to entertain revelers.

The open-air magnificent Yangon Mayor's water-throwing pandal, which will be the central and the biggest one in the city, is being set up, designed and decorated with elements of Myanmar traditional culture.

Pandal organizers set up CCTV cameras and hire private security guards to tighten security measure.

Myanmar traditional dancing troupes of young ladies are practicing singing songs and dancing to perform during the water festival.

This year, the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC) has permitted nearly 100 water-throwing pandals including large and medium ones, up from 41 pandals last year.

This year's four-day water festival will run until April 16.

The Myanmar water festival which is the longest during a year represents a unique and entertaining event.

Of Myanmar's 12 seasonal festivals throughout the year, the water festival is the biggest and the most merry one.
