ISLAMABAD, Nov. 9 (APD) -- At least three policemen, including an officer, were killed and eight others sustained injuries in a blast in Pakistan’s southwest metropolitan of Quetta on Thursday, local media reported.
The reports said that the incident took place when a blast hit a police vehicle near Chamman Housing Scheme at the airport road of Quetta, the provincial capital of Pakistan’s southwest Balochistan province.
The police vehicle was carrying Hamid Shakeel Durrani, Deputy Inspector General of Police of Quetta, to his office when it came under attack.
Police, rescue teams and security forces rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to the hospital.
Durrani’s driver and his assistant were also among the deceased, while three other police gunmen also got seriously injured.
At least four vehicles and two motorcycles were also damaged in the explosion.
Nature of the blast is not known yet. Some reports said it was a suicide blast, but no official confirmed it.
Police and security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in the city.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi condemned the attack and directed the authorities concerned to provide the best available treatment to the wounded.
