More medical teams are rushing to central China's Hubei Province to aid in novel coronavirus control.

A team of 313 medical workers from hospitals in southern China's Guangdong Province was sent to Hubei Friday to join the fight against the epidemic.

Meanwhile, Shanghai also dispatched a team of 136 medical workers to Wuhan, the capital of Hubei.

A total of 107 medical teams comprising 10,596 medical personnel have been sent to aid the province as of 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, local authorities said late Thursday.

Another 2,250 medical personnel are still needed, especially those from the respiratory, critical care and infectious departments.

To solve the shortage of health workers, Hubei has encouraged local hospitals to re-employ retired doctors and nurses in good health, and the province is also applying for further aid from the central government.

By Thursday, Hubei had 22,112 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection, with 618 deaths and 4,002 cases in severe or critical condition.
