Indonesian coal production is projected to rise by 20 percent to over 400 million ton next year as demand of the commodity picks up globally, association said here on Monday.

Deputy Chairman of Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI) Herman Kasih said that despite of the swelling of country's energy demand offshore market was still the main destination in marketing the commodity in years to come.

"We aspire more than 400 million ton production next year, it is 20 percent (increase)," he said in a discussion on Indonesian mining industry.

"As many as 80 percent of the total outputs is going to be exported (next year)," said Herman.

The Southeast Asia's largest economy has a vast array of coal resources, making the country as the world's top producer of thermal coal.

Next year, the association would commence shipping coal to Vietnam with quota of about 30 million tons for the whole year, said Herman.

"In January we will kick off exporting coal to Vietnam. The volume is about a half of Vietnam demand of 60 million tons of coal in the year," he said.

Herman said that Indonesian miners have long built cooperation with Vietnam and the closeness geographically was also factored in the approval of the importation from Indonesia.
