The route, extending 1,290 km, connects Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality, and Guiyang, capital of Guizhou Province. One trip takes around eight hours.

A border-crossing train loaded with vehicles enters the wheel replacement workshop at the Erenhot Port in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, April 12, 2020. Due to different standards of track gauge in different countries, trains loaded with vehicles had to cope with complicated border-crossing process in the past.

The situation has changed now. Making use of the train specialized for transporting vehicles with removable bogie and coupler devices, trains loaded with vehicles can pass through the Erenhot Port without discharging and reloading work, shortening the border-crossing time to as fast as less than one day from three to four days before.
