Slovakia could be a significant business partner for cooperation along the silk road, business leaders said Monday.

Business and investment opportunities provided by the Silk Road were discussed on Monday by Slovak and Chinese businessmen during a visit by representatives of Chinese companies headed by Lu Jianzhong, Chairman of the China Chamber of International Commerce and president of the Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce (SRCIC).

Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SOPK) president Peter Mihok stated that this was the first such meeting with the SRCIC, which has had SOPK as a member since the summer.

"China is planning to restore the 5,000-year-old Silk Road, a route that saw lively trading activities between Asia and Europe in the past," stressed Mihok.

According to Lu, China considers Slovakia to be a significant business partner that has all the prerequisites for further expansion of business contacts.

Mihok noted that thanks to SOPK's membership of SRCIC, Slovak entrepreneurs will be able to take part in projects funded within SRCIC and propose projects to be carried out in cooperation with Chinese partners.
