An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted east of the Kuril Islands, in Russia's Sakhalin Oblast region, at 0440 GMT Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 29.4 km, was initially determined to be at 45.8251 degrees north latitude and 152.2895 degrees east longitude.
