The United States has recently stepped up deportation of illegal immigrants back to Mexico and central American nations. U.S. policymakers argue that this is to protect American citizens against COVID-19. But the policy would most likely put some of the world's most vulnerable public health systems in danger and undercut global anti-COVID-19 response. In the end it will also put the United States in danger.
