MANILA, Oct 24 (APD) – President Rodrigo Duterte underwent physical check-up yesterday, part of which was magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and was diagnosed to have muscle spasms “causing what he described to be an unbearable pain at the pelvic and spinal area of his body.”
Presidential Spokesman and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador S. Panelo said the Chief Executive suffered from a motorcycle accident several years ago and another minor mishap involving the same type of motor vehicle last October 17.
“The attending doctor said that there is a strong likelihood that these incidents may have caused or possibly aggravated the current pain he is suffering from in his lower back,” thus said Secretary Panelo.
Media reports earlier disclosed President Duterte opted to leave Tokyo earlier than scheduled due to the excruciating pain Tuesday night, October 22.
President Duterte was advised by his doctor to rest and take medicines that will relieve him of pain caused by the muscular spasms as the same doctor ruled out any surgical procedure.
According to Secretary Panelo, despite the limited physical activity, President Duterte will meet Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua this afternoon to discuss certain infrastructure projects in the country which are financed by China.
