MR. RIAZ HUSSAIN PIRZADA is a Pakistani politician who has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since August 2018. Previously, he was a member of the National Assembly between 1993 and May 2018 and was a member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab from 1985 to 1988. He served as Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination, in Abbasi cabinet from August 2017 to May 2018. A leader of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), Previously Pirzada served as Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Co-ordination from 2013 to 2017. He served as Federal Minister for Minorities, Minister for Health in 2011 and Minister for Professional and Technical Training from 2011 to 2012. He serves as Minister of Human Rights since 19 April 2022.Here are some of MR. RIAZ HUSSAIN PIRZADA's thoughts on the security situation of Chinese investment projects in Pakistan.
Mr. Pirzada said, “yes, unfortunately we have seen some deadly attacks in different cities on both Chinese civilians and workers working on Chinese projects in past. Pakistan Muslim League (N) leadership, the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and current Prime Minister Shehbaz give a lot of care and importance of all weather friendship with China. Most of the big Chinese projects including CPEC started in Nawaz Sharif regime.” It is a pity that the previous government of PTI led by Imran Khan was not much serious about Chinese projects and we have seen some delays also. PM Shhehbaz Sharif personally take keen interest and is very much concerned about the timely completion of all Chinese Projects. The government has ensured and has taken solid measures about the security and the security situation of all Chinese-funded projects is much satisfactory. There are certain forces that are not happy with the enhanced cooperation between Pakistan and China and they often try to damage the interests of both nations. We’re vigilant and taking all possible measures.
Answering about the risk factors for Chinese projects and Chinese people, he believes that there is no such serious kind of risk or threat to the Chinese people. There are certain risks as the delays of projects, increased cost of projects and some other minor issues, which both countries have the potential and resolve to solve amicably.
On the current security situation, the comments of Federal Minister were, “The law and order and security situation are quite satisfactory. The people of Pakistan and LEAs are committed to ensure safety of all local and foreigners living in our homeland. All government departments with coordinated strategy are doing their best. The government keep cautious check. To eliminate violence, government has taken multiple steps engaging all stakeholders and has devised a comprehensive strategy to counter any such incident.
Replying about the Chinese security, he stated that current government under the leadership of premier Shehbaz Sharif is taking all possible measures to protect Chinese projects and Chinese nationals in Pakistan. Special units have been formed for this purpose including Pak Army and other LEAs. Continuous review of security measures should be ensured to implement the decisions and strategy suggested by different / concerned departments. I think this will help to further improve and strengthen the security.
