Afghan president Hamid Karzai has rejected rumors suggesting he would sign a controversial Bilateral Security Agreement with Washington before stepping down in May.
Presidential election in Afghanistan will be held in a week's time, but Karzai is barred by constitution from running for a third term.
The security pact with the U.S. would allow the presence of a limited number of U.S. forces in Afghanistan after NATO-led troops withdraw from the country by the end of this year.
In an exclusive interview with APD, Karzai says he would sign the deal only if the U.S. agreed to support meaningful peace talks with the Taliban, stop searching civilian houses and ensure transparent elections.
