Senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi on Tuesday proposed four points for strengthening cooperation among countries of the Global South, stressing that the Global South should join hands to promote world peace and common development.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the CPC Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, put forward the proposals when attending the 13th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He advocated eliminating conflicts and restoring peace, saying the Global South should uphold a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security concept, promote the building of a balanced, effective and sustainable security architecture, respect the legitimate security concerns of all countries, and work for the political settlement of hotspot issues.

Wang also called for promoting development, saying the Global South should place development at the center of the international agenda, revitalize the global partnership for development and foster new growth drivers. Developing countries should also encourage developed countries to earnestly honor their aid commitments, delivering more development benefits to the people of all countries, Wang added.

Meanwhile, he stressed the importance of openness and inclusiveness, urging countries to respect the diversity of civilizations, oppose ideology and camp confrontations, support countries in exploring their own development paths and social systems, and strengthen exchanges and mutual learning on governance.

Wang also called for unity and cooperation, saying countries should advocate the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, oppose hegemony and power politics, and support the United Nations in playing an active role in international affairs.

"In the new round of global governance system reform, we need to increase the voice and representation of the Global South and safeguard our common interests," Wang said.

He added that China, as a member of the Global South, is willing to work with other emerging markets and developing countries to promote the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind.
