A Hong Kong court decided on Monday to adjourn the proceedings against Jimmy Lai Chee-ying, an instigator of Hong Kong riots, and some other people involved in illegal assemblies to Sept. 15.

The 13 suspects, also including Lee Cheuk-yan, were charged with participating in or inciting others to participate in unauthorized assemblies earlier this year, according to the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts. Their cases were adjourned to give the police more time for investigations.

People convicted of the offense of unlawful assembly could face up to five years of imprisonment in Hong Kong.

Lai was also prosecuted for an offense of criminal intimidation and was involved in multiple illegal assemblies during Hong Kong's social chaos and unrest last year.
