Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday stressed that China and the United States should reflect and learn the lessons from their relations in recent years, so as to rebuild the strategic framework for the sound and steady development of China-U.S. relations.

He made the remarks when talking about China-U.S. relations

in his speech at the Symposium on the International Situation and China's Foreign Relations in 2020

.

The two sides should summarize the experience of mutually beneficial cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic ties and meet each other halfway to this end, he added.

Communication and dialogue are effective ways to correctly understand each other's strategic intentions, Wang said. "China is ready to open dialogue with the U.S. on an equal footing at all levels and in all fields."

Restarting the cooperation in joint fight against the pandemic, and strengthening communication on major issues such as the global economy, climate change, counter-terrorism and cyber issues, are also important, he added.

Saying that mutual trust is the prerequisite for the sound and stable development of bilateral relations, Wang noted that the U.S. side should correct its strategic perception of China, do not see China as a threat, and view China's development with a positive and constructive attitude.
