Online sales on "Cyber Monday" increased to 2 billion U.S. dollars, a new record driven by surging use of mobile devices, according to data released on Monday.
Online sales rose 17.5 percent on "Cyber Monday" till 6 p.m. EST (2300 GMT) compared with the same period last year, according to IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark.
Data showed that mobile devices contributed much to the hike. Mobile shopping accounted for 30 percent of total online shopping on this "Cyber Monday," increasing nearly 62 percent from last year.
Amazon still takes the top spot on online shopping, while the e-commerce operations of those bricks-and-mortar retailers are starting to catch up.
Online shopping now accounts for about 10 percent of retail spending in the United States. However, it sees much faster growth as shoppers look for more convenience and lower price. During the Thanksgiving weekend, total sales sank about 3 percent to 57.4 billion dollars, while online sales still enjoyed a 17.3-percent rise.
