Thai and Myanmar companies are seeking to establish solar and wind power plants in Yangon and Ayeyawaddy regions, official reports said Monday.

Thai-based Kamari Panit Ltd Partnership and Myanmar-based Won Toll company are to work together to bring 300 megawatts' solar and wind power plants to industrial zones in the two regions under an agreement of cooperation signed recently.

Once the permission for the 300-megawatts (mw) solar and wind power plant is obtained, 50 to 100 mw will be produced within the first six months with 300 mw to be followed within one-year period, the report said.

President of the Hlaingtharya Industrial Zone U Myat Tint Aung expressed welcome of electricity that can be obtained without damaging the environment.

To allow for the implementation of the power plant, the Thai company is making two big bonds of 10 million U.S. dollars each to a bank, the report added.

Electricity is badly needed in Myanmar's industrial zones to accommodate foreign investors, experts said.
