China's telecommunications company Huawei has donated video conferencing equipment to Uganda to help the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in a tweet late on Thursday hailed Huawei, noting that the video conferencing facilities would enable quick communication between the ministry of health headquarters, Mulago national referral hospital and other hospitals across the country.

Ruth Aceng, minister of health said the equipment will be critical in fighting the pandemic in the country, which has so far registered 18 positive cases.

"Thank you Huawei for the donation of video conferencing ICT solutions to assist in the battle against COVID-19," the minister said.

According to Huawei, the facilities shall enable mobile video meetings and communications among staff in various sites such as health centers and ministry of health. Ugandan medical personnel will also be able to use the equipment to share their experiences with their Chinese counterparts back in China on how to contain COVID-19.

The Huawei video conferencing solution includes special video terminals and software that connects to more terminals such as phones and computers of doctors and officers.
