A number of Chinese language institutes have cropped up in Pakistan as the next generation prepares for employment opportunities in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

Ahead of the arrival of CPEC, locals are keenly anticipating becoming part of the multi-billion dollar project. As such, many are determined to learn Chinese.

The Institute for Skills and Human Resource Development or I-Sahrd was established in Hunza Valley in 2015. It was the first institute to introduce a Chinese language course in the region. The educational facility places a huge emphasis on the Chinese language.

Ahmad Jan teaches Chinese at I-Sahrd. He is a 30-year-old resident of the small town of Karimabad in the heart of Hunza Valley. Jan was determined to learn the language. In order to do so, he would travel to Islamabad for college in the day and learn Chinese in the evening.

Jan reckons that although English is spoken widely worldwide, the time has come for Chinese to become a more "global language".
