A Kremlin official has tested positive for coronavirus, a spokesperson confirmed Friday, adding that the patient has had no recent close contact with President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the case during a daily briefing, declining to name the official.

Peskov said the Kremlin has been taking all necessary sanitary and epidemiological measures to curb the spread of the virus.

Russia has so far registered 1,036 cases of COVID-19 in 58 regions, including 196 in the last 24 hours, according to the latest official data.
