BRUSSELS, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in European countries.
LONDON -- British Health Secretary Matt Hancock on Thursday urged the public to participate in the government's test and trace system designed to help the easing of the coronavirus lockdown measures.
Chairing Thursday's Downing Street press briefing, Hancock said the test and trace system is "critical" to easing lockdown, calling it a "civic duty" for the public to participate in the scheme.
"Participation with NHS (National Health Service) test and trace is your civic duty," Hancock said.

MADRID -- The Spanish Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Welfare on Thursday reported no new deaths from COVID-19 for a fourth consecutive day.
According to the ministry, a total of 27,136 people have died from COVID-19 in Spain, with 32 people losing their lives to the virus in the past seven days.
The ministry also reported 156 new cases detected by PCR tests, which discover if the coronavirus is active in the body. The figure was down from 164 a day earlier.

ROME -- Italy reported another 53 COVID-19 deaths over the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll since the pandemic began in the country to 34,167, the Civil Protection Department said on Thursday.
The total number of active infections has decreased to 30,637, down by 1,073 compared to Wednesday, the department said in its daily bulletin.
This came one week after the last remaining restrictions under a nationwide lockdown were lifted and Italians were once more free to travel within their own country, beginning on June 3.

PARIS -- The COVID-19 pandemic has since early March claimed 29,346 lives in France, the world's fifth highest toll after the United States, Britain, Brazil and Italy, official data published by the Health Ministry showed on Thursday.
On daily basis, the tally grew by 27, slightly higher than Wednesday's 23, the ministry said in a statement.
The total number of people with the COVID-19 who need hospital treatment fell by 213 to 11,465. The same downward trend was reported in intensive care units, with 903 patients requiring life support, a one-day decrease of 30, it added.

TIRANA -- Health authorities in Albania have reported a total of 122 new coronavirus cases over the last three days, a record increase registered in a short time since March 9, when the first coronavirus cases were confirmed in Albania.
Speaking at a daily briefing on Thursday, Mirela Cami from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection stated that 44 new coronavirus cases were registered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of confirmed cases in Albania to 1,385.
According to Cami, nine health personnel tested positive for COVID-19 over the last 24 hours and all of them were contacts of previous positive cases.■
