The coronavirus will only strengthen and re-energize the Belt and Road cooperation and open up new possibilities despite the temporary and limited impact of COVID-19, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the press conference of the third session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) on Sunday.

"The impact of COVID-19 on the Belt and Road cooperation is temporary and limited. The coronavirus will only strengthen and re-energize Belt and Road cooperation and open up new possibilities," Wang said.

According to the foreign minister, the Belt and Road cooperation is driven by a strong and shared commitment to common development, and built on real benefits to the people in partner countries.

"The future of the Belt and Road Initiative lies in expanding cooperation into new areas," he added.
