Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi left for China on Thursday on a two-day visit for talks on bilateral matters, the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan said.
A foreign ministry statement said that Qureshi, accompanied by senior officials, will be traveling to China's Hainan province.
The foreign minister will lead the Pakistan side in the second round of the China-Pakistan foreign ministers' strategic dialogue, the statement said, adding that the first meeting of the dialogue was held in March last year.
During the dialogue, both sides will, inter alia, discuss cooperation on fighting COVID-19, bilateral relations, regional and international issues of mutual interest, according to the statement.
The visit will play an important role in further strengthening Pakistan-China all-weather strategic cooperative partnership and deepen strategic communication and coordination with China on a range of issues, the statement said.
Pakistan and China are the closest friends and staunch partners. Their time-tested friendship is based on unparalleled mutual trust, understanding, and commonality of interests. Both sides are fully committed to building closer China-Pakistan community of shared future, the statement added.
Meanwhile, in a video statement released by the foreign ministry, Qureshi described his visit as "very important," saying the composition of his delegation reflects the vision of Pakistan's political and military leadership.
The foreign minister said he had detailed consultations with Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday about the visit.
