5 killed as boat capsizes in India

Five people were killed and four others rescued Wednesday after a boat capsized in a river in India's eastern state of Bihar, officials said.

The boat capsized in river Ganga at Fatuha town in Patna, the capital city of Bihar.

"Today a boat carrying nine people capsized here, following which five drowned. Four people were rescued and immediately hospitalized," Avinash Kumar, a disaster management official with local government told Xinhua over telephone from Patna. "All the five bodies have been fished out from the river."

Authorities have ordered probe into the incident.

Boat capsizing tragedies are common in India, mainly because of overloading.
