South Korean President Moon Jae-in's approval rating topped 80 percent ahead of the 100th day anniversary of his inauguration, a survey showed Wednesday.

According to the local pollster Embrain, 84.1 percent of respondents supported Moon's management of state affairs. The negative sentiment stood merely at 12.9 percent.

It was based on a survey of 1,015 voters conducted from Monday to Tuesday. The poll, commissioned by broadcaster YTN, had 3.1 percentage points in margin of error with a 95 percent confidence level.

Over 90 percent of those in their 30s and 40s gave an overwhelming support for Moon, while support from those in their 10s and 20s recorded 87.4 percent. Among those aged 60 or older, more than 70 percent supported Moon.

Thursday would mark the 100th day anniversary of Moon's inauguration. He won a landslide victory in the May 9 presidential by-election, which was caused by the impeachment of his predecessor Park Geun-hye.

Moon's ruling Democratic Party garnered 54.4 percent of support, keeping the top post by a wide margin.

The main opposition Liberty Korea Party posted 9.9 percent in support scores, followed by the minor progressive Justice Party with 6.1 percent and the minor conservative Righteous Party with 5.5 percent.

The centrist People's Party won 4.5 percent of support rate.
