The Indian Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah Wednesday said if Narendra Modi comes to power, he would annihilate Muslims of India.

"I am not afraid of him (Modi) but of his divisive intentions. He will annihilate Muslims if he comes to power," Abdullah told the reporters in Baramulla town, about 55 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Abdullah the father of region's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was in the town to do campaigning for his party candidate in Baramulla constituency.

This is not for the first time that senior Abdullah has accused right-wing Hindu nationalist Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) or India' s Peoples Party of flaring up communal passions between different communities. Last month he accused Modi of being a "dictator" and said his autocratic way of functioning would harm the BJP as well as the country.

Modi is prime ministerial hopeful in the ongoing elections.

He is a controversial figure in Indian politics and blamed for doing little to stop the 2002 religious riots in Gujarat. The pogrom worst in recent Indian history saw more than 1,000 Muslims killed and thousands displaced across Gujarat in 2002. Modi always denied any wrongdoing during the riots.

"Modi is supported by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-RSS (a hardline Hindu organisation). I can only hope that secular India will not go the communal way," he said.

Abdullah's National Conference has entered into a pre poll alliance with Congress party in Indian-controlled Kashmir and divided region's six seats. Each party has decided to field its candidates on three seats only and decided to support the other on remaining three.

The alliance has to face candidates from region's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), BJP, newly launched anti-corruption party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) or Common man's party.

Recently senior Abdullah blamed PDP for the attack on his workers, following which the party complained to election commission.

Polling for the 16 th Indian general elections is underway in Indian-controlled Kashmir. In the ongoing India's general elections the Congress party is seeking to regain power under the leadership of Rahul Gandhithe fourth generation scion of India's powerful Nehru-Gandhi clan. He is facing Modi.
