The Tokyo High Court on Thursday morning ruled against a group of Chongqing Bombing survivors who sued the Japanese government and asked for an apology and compensation.

The court acknowledged the historical facts of the Chongqing Bombing but said it will maintain the verdict of a lower court.

In 2015, the Tokyo District Court ruled against the then 188 plaintiffs and did not recognize their right to seek damages.

Japanese warplanes indiscriminately bombed Chongqing, then China's capital, and nearby cities and towns between 1938 and 1944, killing and injuring more than 32,000 people.
