Wang Yi speaks by phone with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov

On June 4, 2021, China's State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

Wang Yi said that Both sides should fully implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, push forward cooperation in various fields in post-pandemic era, make the high level political trust and traditional friendship yield more results, and work together to set a good example of major-country relations.

Wang Yi said the two sides need to further expand professional and technical cooperation in pandemic prevention and control, and strengthen coordination in unified testing standards, data sharing, joint scientific research, border pandemic prevention and control, and mutual recognition of health certificates for traveling, so as to jointly address the challenges of the post-pandemic era.

Wang Yi said that the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era is all-weather and has withstood numerous tests in the international arena. In particular, China and Russia have always firmly supported each other on issues concerning each other's core interests.

Wang Yi urged both countries to firmly uphold the international system with the UN at its core, the international order based on international law, international fairness and justice, and world peace and stability.

Lavrov said that the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era has developed vigorously and achieved fruitful results. He said Russia is ready to maintain close strategic coordination with China on international and regional issues, firmly support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests, firmly oppose hegemonism, firmly defend multilateralism and jointly safeguard world peace, stability and international fairness and justice.

He added Russia hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, optimize customs clearance procedures, speed up cargo transport, jointly promote safe and efficient operation of ports and actively promote economic recovery.

The two foreign ministers also reached broad consensus on a series of international and regional issues of common concern.
