In today’s we-media era, video production is no longer something exclusive to professionals. This is also contributing to the growing demand for smaller and cheaper camera stabilizers from both cameramen professionals as well as selfie lovers.

Zhiyun is a leading producer in this particular market. The company’s production lines churn out various stabilizers, from smaller ones for cell phones to larger ones for more professional cameras.

“Our industry is a classic example of ‘made in China.’ In this area, China is ahead of the pack. We're no longer talking about ‘copy to China,’ but ‘copy from China.’ Chinese products are taking center stage internationally,” said Leo Wong, vice president of Zhiyun.

At the same time, another Chinese company, DJI, a leading drone-maker, has brought some of its aerial photography technology down to the earth. After the company worked out a solution that solved the issue of vibrations during flight, DJI naturally extended this technology in its development of handheld stabilizers.

Thanks to DJI global distribution and sales network, reaching consumers was relatively easy. Both Zhiyun and DJI have opted for in-house production, a choice that presents challenges, while helping ensure stringent production control.

Analysts say, the continued rise of social media, live broadcasting, and we-media will continue to prop up demand for this particular type of product. And the up-coming 5G network is expected to provide another boon to the stabilizer-making industry.

At the same time, as handheld stabilizers mature, the technology behind them might find uses in other fields, such as medical equipment.
