Vietnam's confirmed COVID-19 cases rise to 49

Vietnam confirmed a new COVID-19 infection in its central city of Hue on Saturday, bringing the total number in the country to 49, its Ministry of Health announced.

The latest case is a 71-year-old British male citizen who was in close contact with a 66-year-old British female that was earlier confirmed to be infected. They both traveled to the Vietnamese capital city of Hanoi from London on March 2. The newly confirmed patient is being treated in Hue, Thua Thien Hue province.

The new case brought the total confirmed cases of infections in Hue to two.

So far, Vietnam has recorded a total of 49 cases with 16 patients already discharged from the hospital. It has seen 33 new infections, among which 12 were foreigners, since March 6.

The country has had 94 suspected cases with 27,180 being put under quarantine as of Saturday, according to its health ministry.
