With a record-breaking number of visitors expected this fiscal year, Universal Studios Japan here will hike its admission fees from Feb. 8, marking the eighth consecutive year for a price increase, operator USJ Co. announced on Dec. 27.

Despite USJ already raising its fees in February this year, the number of visitors is on the rise, and so the theme park in Osaka’s Konohana Ward calculated that it can sustain its strong popularity even with the additional charge.

The cost of a one-day studio pass for ages 12 and up will be raised to 7,600 yen ($65), including tax, from 7,400 yen, surpassing the 7,400 yen fee for an adult’s one-day pass for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture.

The ticket price for children aged 4 to 11 will be raised by 120 yen to 5,100 yen.

For seniors aged 65 or over, the fee will be raised 180 yen to 6,830 yen.

USJ also plans to raise the current annual pass of 22,800 yen but did not say by how much.

After opening a new type of roller coaster, the Flying Dinosaur, which is based on the Jurassic Park movies, in March, USJ has continued to pull in more customers.

The number of visitors this fiscal year is expected to exceed last year’s record high of 13.9 million.

Large-scale investment projects are also lined up for USJ, including a Nintendo-themed area on which the theme park will spend 50 billion yen.

USJ said it wants to enhance customer satisfaction by adding new attractions.
