Argentina's lower house approved a bill legalizing abortion in most cases. The draft law was approved in a 131-117 vote with six abstentions.

Supporters of decriminalizing abortion gathered near Congress and followed the debate. They chanted slogans and waved green scarves, the symbol of the campaign to legalize abortion. They cheered and hugged in the streets of Buenos Aires after the result was announced.

Opponents also marched outside Congress to protest the abortion bill.

The bill goes next to the senate for a vote. If approved, Argentina would become the largest Latin American country to legalize abortion.
