A suicide bombing claimed by the hardliner Islamic State (IS) group in the Afghan capital Kabul on Friday has left 10 people dead and 22 others injured, spokesman for Ministry of Public Health confirmed here.

"According to our information collected from hospitals 10 dead bodies and 22 injured persons of the blast have been taken to hospitals in Kabul," Wahid Majroh told Xinhua.

A suicide bomber, who police sources said was attempting to enter a political gathering in the western edge of Kabul city, was identified by a security checkpoint and ordered to stop but then blew himself up killing himself and injuring several others.

Earlier, deputy to spokesman for Interior Ministry, Nasrat Rahimi had confirmed seven dead including the attacker and 22 more injured.

However, Public Health Ministry spokesman Wahid Majroh disputed the number, saying the suicide bombing claimed 10 lives and wounding 22 others. The bomber might also be among the casualties, he added.

Meanwhile, hours after the deadly bombing, the radical IS outfit has claimed responsibility for the bloody attack.

The hardliner militant group in a statement posted on its website claimed that the militants operating in Afghanistan conducted the attack.
