Hong Kong's Secretary for Education Eddie Ng said on Friday that he had reached agreement with the kindergarten operators concerning pupil admission procedures.

Ng had a meeting with principals of Tai Po and northern district kindergartens on Friday, going through the controversial issue of vacancy shortage of kindergartens therein.

Ng said those kindergartens agreed to set up a standardized registration date. Students must first submit their personal information to the Education Bureau of the city's government for confirmation. The Bureau will then issue a registration certificate. After that, parents of the applicants have to submit the registration certificate to the kindergarten they chose, and complete the entire process.

The date of registration is temporary set on mid December. If students want to transfer to another school, parents can take the registration certificate from the original kinderten, and submit it to the new one.

Ng said this measure is to stop parents from reserving multiple vacancies in different kindergartens. Meanwhile, the Bureau will support parents from obtaining more information.

In a bid to increase the size of admission, the Bureau demands kindergartens to fully utilize the space of the campus, and encourage the kindergarten operators to expand or open more kindergartens.
