China's hotel industry association Wednesday released a "self-discipline" pact on epidemic prevention work amid the novel coronavirus outbreak, pledging more standard prevention measures to make customers feel safer checking in.

Jointly released by the China Hospitality Association and e-commerce company Meituan, the pact offers guidelines and standards for hotels' material supply, staff management, disinfection and other aspects of prevention work.

The pact, the first of its kind in the industry, represents the efforts of many public health, hotel and tourism experts, according to Ding Zhigang, secretary general of the association.

Hotel workers are required to wear masks, report their health conditions on a daily basis and check on the temperatures and health of customers and visitors.

The pact also proposed standards for hotels' ventilation and how the hotel rooms and public spaces should be disinfected.
