APD | 1,076 more Chinese cleared of coronavirus in Pakistan’s Punjab

The Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD) department in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province has conducted screening of 1,076 Chinese citizens and cleared them of coronavirus disease, officials announced.

Health Secretary Muhammad Usman said the department has a complete data of as many as 2,795 Chinese in Punjab, who are working for 50 companies at various sites.

The official said the medical teams are working and screening of the remaining Chinese people would also be completed as soon as possible.

According to the official, 150 people of them had returned from China during the last 15 days or so but all 1,076 Chinese who went through the medical test showed no sign of novel coronavirus that has played havoc in China.

Pakistan’s health department in coordination with Chinese embassy in Pakistan has been working on to conduct tests of all Chinese people in Pakistan.

So far, Pakistan has not reported any person affected by the virus.

Seven suspected patients were admitted to the high-dependency unit in different hospitals in the country, but those have been cleared on Sunday after Pakistan received testing kits from different sources.

Earlier on Sunday evening, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Zafar Mirza told media that Pakistan is ready to face any kind of situation adding that Pakistan would not evacuate its people from China, especially from the affected areas to avoid chances of transmission of the virus in Pakistan.

According to official figures, around 28,000 Pakistani students are studying in China and 538 Pakistani students are present in Wuhan.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also provided technical guidance and tools including thermos guns for screening along with laboratory support for the management of coronavirus cases.

WHO representative in Pakistan Palitha Mahipala said in a statement, “We are very much impressed and appreciate preparedness for NCV in Pakistan by the government of Pakistan and the Ministry of Health and WHO is continuously committed to supporting the government in responding to this public health emergency of international concern.”
