The chairman and the general manager of Eastern Airport Group, which administers Nanjing's international airport, have been put under investigation, the Communist Party of China (CPC) Jiangsu provincial committee for discipline inspection and supervisory commission said in a statement on Tuesday.

This comes after Nanjing Lukou International Airport saw an outbreak of the COVID-19 Delta variant last month that has since spread to over 20 cities around the country.

Tuesday's statement said the two are being probed for suspected severe violations of disciplines and laws.

On Saturday, authorities announced disciplinary action was being taken against 15 officials in Nanjing, including a vice mayor and the head of the local health commission, for failing to contain the COVID-19 outbreak at Nanjing airport.
