Two days after the CPPCC session opened, the first annual session of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC), the country's parliament, will kick off on Tuesday.

The two sessions are of great importance to China, as this is the first year in which the proposals and measures raised at the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China will be implemented.

China has vowed to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, a goal later labelled as the "Chinese dream."

This year's sessions will form new government organizations and elect new CPPCC leaders, providing institutional and personnel guarantees for the country's development.

As an important platform for carrying out China's democratic politics, the sessions are expected to turn the ruling Party's propositions into national policies through a legal process.

During the sessions, legislators and political advisors from all walks of life will gather together to discuss state affairs, contribute their wisdom and provide public voices in a way that influences national policy making.

The sessions will also push forward reform to make breakthroughs in key fields and eradicate institutional shortcomings.

SOUNDBITE: LIU HUAIYUAN, CPPCC National Committee member

"I think there will be many new proposals and measures raised this year, because we have many new faces here this year and they will bring new ideas to the sessions. Our government has made tremendous efforts in fighting against corruption and waste since the 18th CPC National Congress. I'm expecting more new things."

SOUNDBITE: AN AYUE, CPPCC National Committee member

"We need to continue deepening the reform, in a bid to make people's life better and build a prosperous and harmonious country."

This year is also crucial for implementing the 12th Five-year Plan, from 2011 to 2015, and laying a solid foundation for the construction of a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
