General Commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on Monday stressed the importance of forming an independent government.

He further stressed the necessity of achieving the tasks of the transitional period, top of them the realization of peace and security and conducting the elections.

Al-Burhan vowed that the army would protect the democratic transition until the conduction of free and fair elections.

Al-Burhan made the remarks during a briefing to the officers of the Sudanese army in the capital Khartoum.

His remarks came one day after the Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok announced his resignation in the wake of a political crisis in the country.
