Four baby emperor penguins are beginning to forage and play by themselves at the penguin breeding center in Tiger Beach Ocean Park in Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning Province.

"To strict simulate the wild environment, including temperature and humidity, water temperature, illumination, bait, they can adapt to the environment. It is good for emperor penguins to live and reproduce."

Some penguins in the emperor penguin breeding research center began to have rut in March and began to lay eggs in May. The incubation period lasted 60 days. The experienced researchers are careful, in order to make these small emperor penguins to be born successfully.

"Because the emperor penguin breeding needs physical exertion, and in the breeding period their appetite is poor, their body constitution may come down. So we start to supply the nutritional needs to protect its constitution. We increase the food supplement in order to increase its weight, to ensure that its weight is normal. We also increased the intensity of nurses, to ensure 24 hours of staff care."

Data shows, even in the Antarctic, the emperor penguin breeding success rate is low. Emperor penguins in land artificial environments only breed successful in a handful of countries.

So far, 18 emperor penguins are born in Dalian in three years. 17 of them survived, except one dead 13th day after birth as a result of congenital disease. The keeper Li Li had successful feed a abandoned hairless little penguin and save a penguin that trapped in its egg.

"I have worked for 12 years and I have a rich experience in animal breeding, and our team is powerful with Vets, nutritionists, etc. We have all kind of stuff in every aspect. When we have some problem we may discuss them together and we can easily express our opinions and solve the problem."

Dalian Tiger Beach Ocean Park Polar Museum is the first museum to display polar marine animal and offer polar show in China.

Its Penguin Breeding Research Center adopt advanced technology in the emperor penguin breeding, and provides a large number of primary data for the Chinese polar penguins and other polar animal research.
