2 killed in flooding in N. India

To people have been killed and two others missing in rivers in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand which has seen incessant showers for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday, police said Monday.

The meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall in many parts of the state till Wednesday.

The state government has been put relief and rescue departments on a high alert while the highways connecting the Char Dhams -- Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri -- remained closed.

Owing to bad weather and poor road conditions, the Kedarnath Yatra Hindu pilgrimage has been suspended.

A woman was buried alive on Saturday evening after a landslide an old man was killed as a cowshed collapsed.

Two persons were swept away by the strong currents of two different rivers.

Thousands of people were killed in May last year in Uttarakhand in a severe flood.
