President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has dismissed the nation's foreign minister over neglect of duty, according to the presidential order published Thursday on the president's official website.

At a special virtual meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday, Aliyev strongly criticized Elmar Mammadyarov, who had served as foreign minister since 2004, for not being in his office when the military clashes erupted on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, according to local reports.

In another presidential order, Aliyev appointed Education Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, who has served on the post since 2018, to take Mammadyarov's place.
