The chief executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has re-appointed Justice Barnabas Fung Wah as the chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) for a term of four years from Aug. 17, 2013 to Aug. 16, 2017, according to the city's government news website on Friday.

The re-appointment has been gazetted.

"We are pleased that Mr. Justice Fung will continue to serve as the chairman of the EAC. His experience in the EAC will help the commission in accomplishing its future tasks," a government spokesman said.

Fung was appointed chairman of the EAC in July, 2009 for his first term.

The EAC was established under the Electoral Affairs Commission Ordinance. Its responsibilities include making recommendations on geographical constituency boundaries, and conducting and supervising elections. It also supervises the registration of electors and makes arrangements to ensure that elections are conducted openly, fairly and honestly.
