MANILA – Twenty-three tourists and three crew members were rescued by personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard Sub-Station in Boracay Island.

Capt. Armando Balilo, Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson said the tourists were on an island-hopping tour when their motorized banca capsized within Balabag village today.

Citing a report from PCG Boracay, Capt. Balilo said the crew members reported their banca “Jocelyn 1” encountered strong wins that broke the boat’s outrigger causing it to capsize.

Three female passengers who required medical assistance were brought to the nearest health facility. They regained consciousness and were declared safe and in good condition.

The rescue team, however, failed to revive a 45-year-old female passenger in critical condition despite undergoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The fatality was reported to be a Chinese national.

The Philippine Coast Guard did not release other details.
