Indonesia extends COVID-19 emergency status till May 29

The Indonesian National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) decided on Tuesday to extend the emergency status of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the country until May 29.

The agency issued a decree on the COVID-19 emergency status, which was signed in Jakarta on Feb. 29.

The Indonesian government's spokesperson for all coronavirus-related matters Achmad Yurianto said on Tuesday that 38 new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the archipelagic country, bringing the total number to 172.

The new cases were mostly found in the capital city of Jakarta, Yurianto said, adding that the death toll currently stands at five.
