The Indian army on Sunday said Pakistan army violated cease-fire on line-of-control (LoC) in Kashmir.
The cease-fire violation, according to Indian army, took place in the morning along Kaman Post in Uri Sector of frontier Baramulla District, about 130 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Early this morning Pakistani troops violated the cease-fire at Kaman Post in Uri Sector by resorting to unprovoked firing," said Lt. Col N N Joshi, Srinagar based Indian army spokesman. "The firing lasted for about three hours, however, we showed maximum restraint and didn't retaliated."
LoC is a de facto border that divides Kashmir into India and Pakistan controlled parts.
Sunday's cease-fire violation on LoC is said to be this year's second.
"The Pakistan firing was not effective and that is the reason our side didn't retaliated," Joshi said.
On January 13, Indian army said a cease-fire violation was recorded along Krishna Ghati Sector of frontier Poonch District, about 185 km southwest of Srinagar.
A senior Indian army officer Major General Anil Chauhan told media in Baramulla that the firing from Pakistani side seemed to be an attempt to disrupt peace and tranquility along the line of control.
The cease-fire violations have come a month after Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) level talks between India and Pakistan were held at Wagah-Attari border. The aim of meeting was to work out a mechanism to ensure peace along LoC in Kashmir and ease tensions.
Last year, deadly skirmishes took place between Indian and Pakistani troops posted on the 720 km long LoC and 198 km international border (IB) in Kashmir. Both sides have suffered troop as well as civilian casualties during the standoff.
Indian army said around 200 cease-fire violations were recorded on LoC and IB in Kashmir last year. Both New Delhi and Islamabad blamed each other for violating cease-fire.
New Delhi and Islamabad in 2003 agreed to observe cease-fire along IB and LoC in Kashmir. Though some violations have been reported on both sides, the cease-fire remains in effect.
Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from British, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
