A guide to Beijing museums on Int'l Museum Day

International Museum Day falls on tomorrow. Have you planned a museum visit yet? With the theme of "Museums and Cultural Landscapes", there will be a series of activities to celebrate the day.

According to the Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage, 97 museums will open to the public for free on that day, and 91 theme activities will be held in Beijing. Here are some recommendations selected from those.

The Capital Museum

May 18

Admission: Free

The museum will put forward a "Museum Night" event in collaboration with Beijing VolunteerFederation. Tomorrow night the museum will keep all its exhibition halls open and invite over1,000 volunteers from all walks of life to experience the night tour in the museum. Besides,the museum will also have interactive activities including oracle bookmark making, and writingon bamboo slips.

As May 18 also marks the 10th anniversary of its new museum building, it plans events toreward its followers on Weibo, and will send books to its readers who share their memories ofthe museum online.

Beijing Ancient Architecture Museum

May 18

Admission: Free

The museum will be open to the public for free especially on the Int'l Museum Day, and a historical relic identification event will be held as before. Porcelain, paintings and calligraphy as well as other antique items can be taken to the site for verification. A total of 200 tickets will be distributed in advance and each visitor can verify three items per ticket for free.

Beijing Auto Museum

May 18- September

Admission: Free

A photography exhibition titled "Life on the wheels" featuring auto culture in the US and China will kick off tomorrow in Beijing Auto Museum, as this year is the "Sino-US Tourism Year".

The exhibition, showing more than 150 excellent photographic works of master photographers, will present people's life on wheels in the 1950s' US and today's China, and explore the social changes brought by the booming auto industry.

The Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture

May 17-June 19

Admission: Free

The museum prepares several exhibitions for the museum day, and the highlights are"Imitation Arts of Ming Dynasty Murals in Yongle Palace" and "ICH: Nantong Blue Calico Art".The 37 paintings on display are quite precious imitations, which reproduce the charm oftraditional Chinese landscape murals. The blue calico art exhibition, as one of the nationalintangible cultural heritage series exhibition, explains the origin and development of the art.

National Art Museum of China

May 18

Admission: Free

The museum plans to open from 18:00 to 20:30 on Wednesday with a night tour available forvisitors.

The seven current exhibitions will be on and audiences can gain knowledge of thedevelopment of Chinese modern art by following literary master Lu Xun's steps, immersethemeselves in French art, and enjoy photographs of Hong Kong in the 1950s and 1960s byphotographer Zhao Xianzao.

Beijing Art Museum

9:15—11:00 May 18

Admission: Free

The museum will have a lecture on the museum day and experts will be invited to introduce highlights from its current exhibition featuring artifacts from Ming and Qing dynasties, which will be a great opportunity to know more about the exhibition.

The museum will be free tomorrow for visitors to enjoy all its exhibitions.

Besides, Beijing Cultural Exchange Museum will hold an "intangible cultural heritage showcase" event and participants can enjoy music performances, experience DIY tie-dyeing, make dough figurines, Peking Opera masks, paper-cutting and colored clay rabbits, etc.

The Museum of Xizhou Yandu Site will join hands with Beijing Auto Museum on a self-driving tour event in Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province.
