John Isner has finally managed to break his long-time jinx to win the maiden Masters 1,000 title in his career. The American registered a 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-4 victory over German Alexander Zverev in the Miami Open final to bag the coveted title.

Despite producing a comprehensive straight-set victory over the in-form Juan Martin del Potro in the semi-finals, the American had some early hiccups in the first-set of the final in Key Biscayne, Florida.

However, Isner fought back and the opening set went down to the wire as world number five Zverev edged in the tie-break. But the 32-year-old American twice broke his 20-year-old German rival in the next two sets, apart from holding his serve throughout the match at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park.

Zverev showcased a valiant performance to save five break points in the decider but home favourite Isner sealed the match as well as the title with his 18th ace.
