The Mozambican police on Wednesday through the country's television station said that it had no signs of Salah Abdeslam, a suspect in the Paris attacks on November 13 and the most wanted man in Europe, spent any time in Mozambique in the months prior to the attacks.
The Mozambican Television and the private STV channels quoted the spokesperson for the general police command, Inacio Dina, as saying that the police received no notification from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), asking the Mozambican police to be alert on this matter.
"There are no signs showing that this person was in the national territory. Also there was no notification at all from the Interpol asking the police to help on the issue," Dina said.
Some local press reported that Abdeslam was always in one cafe- bar along one of Maputo's main streets, Julius Nyerere Avenue. This information started to circulate in Maputo, shortly after the detention of Abdeslam on March 18 in Belgium.
Local press said that workers of the cafe recognized him through pictures published by international media.
"The police values this information, and so immediately started investigations," said Dina, adding that these however have not led to any indication that he was in Mozambique.
